Client Update: SEO Location Research

While blogging and adjusting on-site SEO of Landshark, I have come to the conclusion that actual location is more powerful than keyword initiated location. When my father in Philadelphia searches “nyc cd duplication” Landshark comes up as #10. When he searches “cd duplication,” Landshark comes up way back on page 5, which is expected.

When in NYC and I search (incognito) “nyc cd duplication,” Landshark comes up #13.

When I search “cd duplication,” Landshark comes up #5!! This is after almost 2 months of time since I started the project.

Want to help me research more? Search the terms and tell us where Landshark falls in the search results!

This is important because we know how the user controls their search experience AND that keyword strategy needs constant monitoring.

How powerful can they be? Let’s just say: with the right demographics, you can position your company or product DIRECTLY in front og your absolute market. Want to target men, ages 18-35 in Wisconsin that listen to Jethro Tull and watch WWE Raw? Ok, done! How about girls ages 16-18 that read Elle Magazine and live in NYC? Done.

Facebook is the ultimate marketing tool.

Example: A client spent $1000 over 3 weeks and received about 100 likes on a Facebook page. 100% legitimate likes. The topic is a bit niche, but we still managed to find potential customers. These are real people with real interest in the content of the ad and content of the landing page.

We can see what is a comment/idea, then it becomes a blog post, then it becomes a new article. This is like digital gossip and movement of ideas.

We like to think about our data on two axis.

Time
Space

We can see how people around the country are reading links about Herman Cain or pizza. We can see how they feel at any given moment.

All together, we present ourselves in this public, curated way. But we have another identity. We use that to create content that appeals on both levels. To share and consume. We show you a map of how people consume your content.

Q: What is Federated Media?

Tagline: We power the independent web. Framing of the company. There are very large platform services, like FB, that are dependent. When you go there, they know waht to show you. Independent web is the fertile ground there ideas and passion can form.
WordPress is entirely independent.
We are the largest technology platform that allows access to independent web. The places you independently elect to go to engage with a community.

Q: Isn’t that a masterful ad network?

I suppose yes, but we are more than that. We have a full suite of ad products. It mainly has to do with understanding the context of the page.
We bought a semantic search engine to scan text and bring up super relevant ads.

Q: How are you selling?

Publishing is super hard work. Putting together a high quality site is hard work. We have buckets of products. They are all growing rapidly.
The average CPM is increasing because publishers are applying data and understanding to the inventory they have access to.
We can turn to the buyer and say that it is worth more.

“The best thing for a brand or business to have is their own platform. Be your own creator, control your own destiny.” (Hmm, I think I heard a song like that)

“I think we need to keep it as a level playing field, and open so everyone can have an equal chance to participate in the internet.”

Social is a big big area. It’s how can social be integrated into everything that you do? Social is not a destination. It’s a horizontal layer. It’s core to what we do. Put social is search, YouTube, GMail, apps. We think it’a gonna be huge, even in advertising.

All social, no search. If i get up on the stage and play music that I like, I don’t just wanna tell you, but I wanna tell everyone!
We gave people are easy way of sharing that via Twitter/Facebook
End of May: a few tweets and updates. It just grew organically close to 1million people. .

The cornerstone of business, usually, is engagement. Whether it’s constant, like Facebook, or focused, Google search.

This panel really stressed that all of these new products and companies are playing their own game. They are all separate and don’t need to compete with each other.

“I’ve never seen the value of Google+. I might make YouTube more social, but not Google itself. (This goes back to the layer. Google is it’s own layer.) The social graph has always existed. Facebook exposes it.”

However, I am all about the +1. It’s a sub layer between Google SEARCH and Facebook SOCIAL layers.

“I’m waiting for the screen to come up into my eye. Someone is going to develop an ocular thing.” I HOPE SO!!

40 million people in Korea, 20 million of them have. downloaded Angrybirds
If a download is a user, it has grown faster than YouTube, Skype, Facebook, and Twitter.

“We made 51 games before angry birds. we always have weekly internal breaching for new ideas. one of our game designers had an idea for a game. the game featured bird characters. everyone said we hav to build a game around the birds. characters before the game. took 8 months in the spring of 2009. 12 people at the time. Came out in december 2009.”

“We look at what it takes to create a hit game. We built AngryBirds to be a hit. No guarantee. You have to build something that appeals to everybody. Again, the iPhone/touch devices really helped making these things more approachable.”

This company is all about visualization. They planned for success.

“When you have a strong brand, you can do amazing things. We are the most copied brand in China. We want to make the experience of getting the real toys, amazing.”

“Disney is a good role model for us. They are doing a lot of things that we want to do and are doing as well. There are role models in all areas. We also look at, “Who it doing this the best?” (This is what I do with my music & design!!)

“We’re building a massive distribution network. We are doing other stuff as we speak. Only getting started.”
